saja weddings.

Saja is an adorable and welcoming boutique in a cool neighborhood called Nolita in NYC. i used to have a part-time gig there and since i left, almost two years ago, the shop turned all bridal which is awesome for all those brides-to-be out there. they also carry a variety of bridesmaids dresses in multiple colors - one stop shopping! Saja dresses are amazing and beautiful with an ethereal feel, thanks to owner/designer Yoo Lee (who, by the way, is so cute and funny and obviously extremely talented). and, the dresses are SO reasonably priced (really, see below. hello?! amazing!).

i asked the always stylish Thea, store manager of four years, to choose three wedding gown styles and to create, for each style, a "wedding day" look which is styled for the wedding and an "everyday" look which is styled to wear after the big day (think parties, shopping, brunching, etc). most brides don't think they can wear their wedding dress ever again (they get it cleaned and stow it away in the back of the closet) but, with Saja's designs, you totally can.

below, Thea shows us how. and she was kind enough to give us her thoughts on each look ... ok, i'll stop with the words and get to the fun stuff ...

Look #1 featuring dress style HB6622

wedding day ...

"This is one of our top selling dresses. The detailing at the neckline and the fact that you can really have fun with accessorizing is a big draw. Here, I paired it with a floral belt made by hushedCOMMOTION. The belt is feminine and not too fussy, but the touch of Swarovski adds an element of fanciful that this dress is made for."

HB6622 $790 / Floral Belt: hushedCOMMOTION $215

everyday ...

"I am a big advocate of hemming your wedding dress after the big day. Why not get to wear a dress that you LOVE, again and again! A hem is a very easy and cost effective way to convert your dress from the big day to your regular closet. Here, I paired it with a gold leather belt from the store and layered on a bunch of necklaces. The summer is all about light fabrics and pale tones, this look will work well for afternoon cocktail parties or dinner dates!"

HB6622 $790
(shown hemmed) / Gold Belt: Mille Feuille $60 / Bird Necklace (shown doubled): Saja $145 / Gold Necklace: Iwona Ludyga $195 / Rose Quartz Necklace: Sonya Ooten $370

Look #2 featuring dress style RY6645

wedding day ...

"I love all the detail work in this dress ... it takes a very special woman to pull this dress off. Personally, I love the sweet feeling of this dress, so I decided to pump up the girly aesthetic by adding two Saja flowers to the belt. Sometimes committing to a theme can really work for you. Also, wearing fun accessories like brightly colored shoes would be perfect here!"

RY6645 $980 / Flower (two used): Saja $40 each

everyday ...

"Half the time, I want to wear this dress just out and about in the city! I encounter many customers who share this sentiment, so I showed how easy this dress can convert. The dress has a very girly feel, so I paired it with a “tough” black leather obi belt from the store to give it a more edgy feel. Layer on some necklaces and you are set to go!"

RY6645 $980 / Gold Long Necklace: vintage / Black Obi Belt: Mille Feuille $98

Look #3 featuring style DU6556

wedding day ...

"There is something so classic about this dress that I felt pearls would be the perfect compliment. Using my own vintage necklace which has a plethora of pearl strands, adds a little oomph to this look while still keeping it classic."

DU6556 $790 / Pearl Necklace: vintage

everyday ...

"If you look at the runways right now, long and full skirts as day-wear is all the rage! Why not keep your wedding dress long and just pair it with fun pieces from your closet? This floral cardigan still keeps the look feminine, while the wide leather belt gives the look a little edge. The belt really accentuates the waist-line which is great when you have so much fabric. And of course, layer on a couple of necklaces!"

Floral Cardigan: Thea’s own / Leather Belt: J-Lynch $285 / Black and Gold Necklace: Iwona Ludgya $213

i LOVE that last look, how cool?!

  1. wow!!! first of all, what a GREAT idea to be able to wear your wedding dress again! that will so be me when i get married - no desire to buy something big and over-the-top fancy that i can't wear again. i love thea's looks - the hemming is brilliant! (i am in love with the idea of a short wedding dress, btw). congrats to thea for her line of accessories!

  2. The dresses are Beautiful... but I didn't really think it was possible to turn these dresses into real wearable everyday looks, but Thea did it. Well done!

  3. Thanks Bryn and Thea for wonderful collaboration. Love the post, and of course, I am bit biased... Stay cool...
